Install Intercom with Segment

How to integrate Intercom with analytics platform Segment.

You can connect your Segment account to your Intercom app in just a few minutes. 

Why connect Segment to your Intercom app? 

Once connected, your user data will be synced from any web, mobile, and server apps where you’ve installed Segment. Connecting Segment to Intercom will also install the Intercom Messenger on any of your websites where Segment is installed.

Installing Intercom using Segment

To install Intercom using Segment, please refer to the installation guide provided in Segment's developer documentation here.

On Intercom, go to Settings > Channels > Messenger > Install and make sure that you've toggled on "Enable connection to messenger".

Using Identity Verification

To implement Identity Verification when installing Intercom via Segment, review Segment's documentation here.

For more information on setting up Identity Verification on Intercom, see our article here. Identity Verification settings on Intercom can be found by going to Settings > Channels > Messenger > Install > and opening the Secure the messenger with Identity Verification tab.

Once you’ve set up Identity Verification and started sending a user_hash for each user from Segment, verify the installation is working as expected.

Installing Segment with Regional Data Hosting

This app uses a code-less method to install the Intercom Messenger. If you will be using GTM with a regional workspace, please ensure that the proper parameter (api_base) is passed- see developer documentation here.
